The Fortune 120 Comms Function That Built Its Own Revenue Line

A multi-year embedded relationship with a global, 260,000-employee manufacturer produced two structured systems from two manual, fragmented processes: one for partner communications and one for a $1M+ revenue platform, both built on the same underlying foundation.

Challenge

During a period of serious supply chain disruption — component shortages, geopolitical uncertainty, facility fires, tariffs, the Suez Canal blockage — partner relationships became critical to the business, but the existing communications program suffered from weak engagement and no way to prove it was working. Separately, a manually assembled quarterly supply chain intelligence report was expensive to produce, impossible to scale, and impossible to monetize despite the depth of insight inside it. Two fragmented, manual processes—one relationship-facing, one information-facing—sat inside the same communications function.

Approach

Both problems got the same fix: replace a manual, unmeasured process with a structured system. For partner communications, that meant annual partner events (rebuilt for virtual delivery through the pandemic), a Relationship Quality Assessment establishing real trust benchmarks, relationship case studies, targeted email and video programs, and an internal platform with a dedicated dashboard for audience targeting and continuous improvement. For the supply chain report, that meant rebuilding a periodic, hand-built document into a structured, always-current, paid subscriber portal — giving customers and partners direct access instead of waiting for the next quarterly release.

Neither was framed as an AI or platform initiative at the time. Both were the same underlying move: turn a fragmented, manual process into a structured, benchmarked system — applied twice, at increasing stakes, inside one embedded relationship.

Results

  • Partner “growth partner” perception rose from 4.25 to 4.92 on a 5-point scale over three years.

  • Trust in adapting to market dynamics rose from 4.44 to 4.84, a critical measure during genuinely turbulent supply chain conditions.

  • Business relationship quality rose from 4.16 to 4.76 over the same period.

  • 93% year-over-year growth in program audience, achieved in a single 12-month period.

  • 60%+ email open rates — 2x the 30% program benchmark.

  • Content output doubled year over year — 68 emails distributed in year one, 271 by year three.

  • Built an internal platform with a dedicated dashboard for audience targeting and continuous improvement — infrastructure, not a one-off campaign.

  • Separately, generated over $1 million in new ARR in its first year by rebuilding a manual quarterly report into a paid subscriber portal.

  • Converted two cost-center deliverables into durable, structured systems — not two lucky wins, one repeated instinct.

Why This Matters

This is the clearest evidence in this portfolio that the system-building instinct isn't specific to AI — it predates it. The same move (structure replacing manual, unmeasured process) produced measurable trust gains in one initiative and a seven-figure revenue line in the other. The tools available today just make the same instinct faster.
